Dogs all across America are being euthanised due to their medical needs or behavioural issues. This has to change, and it will, with the help of the 15/10 Foundation.
This non-profit was created by Matt Nelson, who’s dog Doug inspired him to raise money for others. Doug was arthritic, didn’t get along with other dogs, and had severe ear infections. Matt formed the WeRateDogs community after seeing the burden caused by medical bills of ill or ‘aggressive’ dogs.
The community argues people are reluctant to adopt these types of dogs due to the financial and physical stress. Therefore, the community takes on these roles to make it easier for potential adopters to give dogs a forever home.
Teaming up with several non-profits including Wags and Walks Rescue, AMA Animal Rescue, and Amazing Strays Rescue, the 15/10 Foundation uses public contributions and sales from their ‘tell your dog i said hi’ merchandise, to help positively transform sick or surrendered dogs.

They have succeeded in sponsoring over 1,000 dogs, most recently including ChaCha, Lola, and Noah.
With the help of Muddy Paw Rescue in New York City, ChaCha was able to have a mass removed. The tissue was analysed in order to decipher the severity of the condition, and it was treated thanks to the donations from people across the world.
In a similarly dire situation, Lola suffered from pyometra - a serious infection of the uterus - which led to sepsis, a condition where harmful microorganisms enter the blood and cause organs to shut down.
Further to this, Noah was hit by a car which snapped both bones in his front leg. Fortunately, Noah’s full care was funded in under 3 hours, and Lola’s emergency surgery and recovery process were covered in the same way.
The foundation also celebrated their 1,000th sponsored dog Meemaw, found as a stray at 12-years-old but now in foster care.
Dogs that currently need donations include Perian, Patti, and Sherlock. A monthly donation of only $5 is needed to become a member of the 15/10 Foundation to ensure each and every dog meets their home.
